Awarding alumni for their accomplishments is a long held tradition in academia. Distinguished Alumni Awards are given for a variety of reasons typically spotlighting the alumnus' involvement with their alma mater or their community. Berklee College of Music will make awards for four broad purposes; service to the college, service to their community or field, achievement in their field, and/or the advancement of music education. Nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award may be made under the following general criteria outlined below.
